About

This site exists primarily as a way to share my writing with people more easily, and, maybe eventually, as a way to pass on writing advice I’ve come across more broadly both in my searches and my experience.

Contained within this site is The Soulfire Series, an urban fantasy series I’ve been working on for over half my life. It contains all the topics and themes that have enamored so many of us over the centuries—magic, immortality, trauma, found family, love, and vampires. Also, there’s some queerness and a general hatred for capitalism in there, too. Because what is fantasy if not an exploration of and for those that are different?

The series follows the life and times of Sloane Briallen and the world of magic that is constantly getting in the way of her living a normal life. Well, as normal a life as being a vampire can be when you didn’t even want to be undead to begin with.

Thus far, I’ve written fifteen books and at least as many novellas. I’m working on getting them each cleaned up and potentially rewritten in certain places. As they’re ready, I will post them.

I want to warn you: These books often deal with a lot of heavy things. I try to include warning at the beginning of every chapter for things that might trigger people. In cases where it’s possible, I will even include a note about where to skip to in the page to avoid anything that could be too much. As the series continues, some parts get darker. There will even be certain chapters or, in one particular case, a whole novella, I will advise people to skip if they have certain triggers. But ultimately, I do try to tell stories of people with trauma dealing with (or in some notable cases, not dealing with) it. I don’t think you can write a good fantasy series without there being a solid amount of trauma, especially since so many of us use, or have used, fantasy as a way to escape trauma. I try to write stories where people see themselves.

I hope you enjoy this, and I always love to read any comments on my writing, so please feel free to, as the YouTubers say, to smash that like button (which doesn’t exist), comment (that does exist, please do that), and subscribe (this also exists, please do that, too).

Love always,

Kpeds
